Duolingo Deutschland
A game that turns the stress of learning a language on Duolingo into a thriller with real consequences: failing a lesson stops being just a passive-aggressive owl.
A game that turns the stress of learning a language on Duolingo into a thriller with real consequences: failing a lesson stops being just a passive-aggressive owl.
Duolingo Deutschland is born from a simple question: what if failing a German lesson on Duolingo had real consequences, not just the usual passive-aggressive owl? The project takes the all-too-familiar anxiety of Duolingo streaks and pushes it into absurd, tense territory, turning every failed lesson into a tangible in-game threat.
Translating an everyday, highly recognizable frustration — the fear of breaking your streak, the pressure of notifications — into a game mechanic that was fun without losing its edge as a critique. As a class project, everything had to be designed, modeled, animated and implemented in Unity within a tight timeframe, covering game design, 3D art, UI/UX and development at once.
A playable Unity game that reframes language-learning anxiety as a satirical, immersive experience, with original art direction, 3D animation and interaction systems.
